Three ways to help a reluctant speller
Waystead Learning·4 min read
Some children take to spelling; many don't. A few small habits help more than a big push the night before.
1
Say it, don't spell it at them.
Ask your child to break the word into sounds first — they'll remember a word they've built far better than one they've copied.
2
One tricky word a day.
Steady beats cramming. A single word, properly learned, sticks; ten in a panic don't.
3
Use it in a silly sentence.
The dafter the sentence, the better it lodges. Laughter is a surprisingly good study aid.
Which words trip your child up most? We're always glad to hear.
